Coronavirus – our response in affected communities

As I’m sure you’ll be expecting, we’re working hard to reduce the impact of covid-19 on the communities we work with. The world’s poorest countries have the weakest health systems, and many of the most vulnerable people are now being exposed to this deadly virus. They’ll struggle get the healthcare they need, and with the cost of not earning a living while in lockdown or quarantine. Our partners are already embedded in these communities working on your behalf to limit the impact of covid-19. You can find out more about what we are doing on our Coronavirus Appeal page

Christian Aid Week is NOT cancelled!

Christian AId Week is here!  And it’s a different experience to previous years, but we know supporters like you will do all you can to make it the same life-changing and joyous week we’ve run since 1957. In fact, now more than ever our gifts, prayers and action are desperately needed. However, in-person events, such as house-to-house collections and Big Brekkies will not go ahead this year.

Christian Aid Week has gone online! And it’s not too late to join us this week, and throughout May.

Deliver an e-envelope

You can’t put real envelopes through letterboxes this year, but you can deliver them to inboxes! We have created n e-envelope that you can send by email, as well as share on social media. You can send a personalised message with your envelope. Visit envelope.christianaid.org.uk to start sending your e-envelopes.

Join our virtual events in Christian Aid Week

It’s more important than ever that we come together as a community to worship and to share fun and fellowship. That’s why during Christian Aid Week we will we have a schedule of virtual events all taking place live from our Facebook page. You don’t even need a Facebook account to join us, all you need to do is click a link!

300,000 steps in May Facebook challenge

We’ve got a new fundraiser for people who want to challenge themselves to walk 300,000 steps in May. It could be in the house, in the garden, or using your daily out of home allowed exercise – with physical distancing measures. Join the Facebook group here to register.

Host your own virtual event

For churches that have found new ways to meet online, we are encouraging all churches to hold a Christian Aid Week service and to hold a fundraising quiz. To help you we have produced the following guides and resources

·         How to hold a virtual Christian Aid Week service

·         Order of service

·         Sermon notes

·         Prayers

·         How to run a virtual quiz

·         Top tips for other virtual fundraising ideas

And coming soon is a pre-recorded video sermon from Rowan Williams.

All of these resources can be found at caweek.org/virtualresources

Your own ideas!

But as with every Christian Aid Week we expect you will have lots of creative ideas, and we will support whatever you decide to do. Whatever you do we know it’s important to be able to let your community know what you have raised, and so we suggest setting up a team page in JustGiving for your church. Individuals can donate directly via the Christian Aid website by telephone 020 7523 2269. Cheques (made payable to Christian Aid) can be sent to us at Christian Aid, 35 Lower Marsh, London, SE1 7RL.

We are currently looking into the possibility of Autumn being a time for any events that you’ve had to cancel or postpone, as well as looking at the possibility of postponing house to house until then. If you’ve recently ordered Christian Aid Week resources, we’ve had to cancel these with our suppliers and won’t be able to send them out to you.

New contact details

As you might have heard, we’re going through some changes at Christian Aid. From June our new Central Supporter Engagement Team will be your first point of contact, available to help you wherever you are based in the country. You can email this team at hello@christian-aid.org or phone 01925 573 769.

Thank you so much for your support. We hope you can join us again this Christian Aid Week.

Love never fails. Coronavirus impacts all of us. But love unites us all.
